Programs

Programs: Back to School/Stay in School (BTS/SIS)

Back to School/Stay in School is a half day free conference for parents that emphasize how to be involved in their child's education. The program began as Columbus's first school supply give away event in 1998 and is now a full year program that holds parents responsible for concentrated involvement in their child’s academics. Back to School/Stay in School kicks off in August and holds registered parents accountable to their commitment until June. Back to School/Stay in School has supplied more than 5000 students with school supplies and has seen an increase of 24% in school parent participation.

Civil Rights Celebration:

Civil Rights Celebration or CRC is the Columbus NAACP's largest fundraiser. It's goal is not only to raise funding for sustaining the local branch but to recognize an Ohioan who has a link to Columbus and also aided in the Civil Rights movement. The CRC happens annually in February. There is a formal dinner and live presentation. This presentation is delivered by local schools who research the civil rights icon, creatively depict the icon's contribution to the advancement of civil rights, and compete for a grand prize of $2000. The Columbus NAACP has directly contributed to the financial bottom-line of 6 local schools through the Civil Rights Celebration.
